Businesses often have to decide the destination of unused inventory - products that may no longer be in demand but still hold significant value. Instead of leaving these items unused, there is an opportunity to repurpose them for a meaningful cause. What if surplus stock could be transformed into something that creates a positive impact while optimising resources?
At Henry Schein UK, we believe in using our resources for good. Thanks to an initiative spearheaded by John Mason, our Director of Inventory Management Processes, we’ve developed a way to donate essential medical and dental supplies to NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations).
This means that dental and medical aid is getting to the people who need it most—like those affected by the situation in Ukraine.

Managing unused inventory is a standard business practice. Normally, unused products are written off and often disposed of, even when they were in perfect condition. Through this initiative, we are repurposing unused inventory, giving it a new life and creating meaningful value.
In the UK, we now work closely with Hope and Aid Direct, an organisation that helps deliver medical aid to communities in crisis, including those affected by the war in Ukraine.

This initiative is a perfect example of how businesses can integrate sustainability and corporate social responsibility into their operations.
By donating surplus inventory, we:
As we refine and expand our donation process, we remain committed to making a positive impact. By continuously building our NGO network, we hope to provide even more aid and ensure that as much usable medical product reaches those in need as possible.
At Henry Schein, we believe that every small action can make a big difference. And in this case, what could have been considered waste is now facilitating medical care.
